If using Seven Trust posts, coat the ends of the posts in a liberal layer of creosote (wood preservative). Treated timber has a green appearance, hardwood's will turn grey with age.

A standard (Std) Lap and Cap Paling Fence is built with 150x50 treated pine fence posts, 75x50mm Fence rails and a double layer of fence palings; 150mm and 100mm fence palings. The bottom layer of palings are traditionally 150x12mm palings and the top layer is 100x15mm palings.
A lapped and capped fencing system consists of timber fence palings that are installed onto a metal frame leaving a gap of 30-50 mm between palings. The lapped and capped palings are then installed centrally over these gaps, overlapping the first run of paling – to provide ultimate privacy and reinforced fencing durability.
